"My brother and I were born in London because my father was a lawyer there."
"But our descent - our interests and our joy was in the north country."
(Beatrix Potter wrote this - when in her 70s)

Join Cumbrian Discoveries, in Beatrix Potter's north country, in an exploration of the life of this remarkable lady.
See and visit the places and sites associated with her in the Lake District.

Beatrix Potter was an artist, writer, farmer, land agent, natural historian, conservationist and landowner.

She is known worldwide for her delightful series of children's stories,
introducing to us famous characters such as:
Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddle Duck, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, and Jeremy Fisher.

In the Lake District she is just as well known for being a well respected farmer and a great conservationist who did much to preserve the traditional way of farming in the area.

Beatrix Potter has left a fascinating legacy for you to explore and experience with us:

  • her original illustrations at the gallery in Hawkshead
  • her natural history and archaeology watercolours at the Armitt Library
  • Hill Top Farm, her Lakeland retreat - left as she knew it - and her other properties
  • countryside locations - the actual places she used as settings in her books
  • countryside walks, which follow in her footsteps

The new film "Miss Potter" starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor features the early life of Beatrix Potter and the sad, romantic story of her first fiancee, Norman Warne.

Join Cumbrian Discoveries in a search for the film locations, which cover the outstanding scenery of the Lake District, and extend to the west coast of Cumbria and east into the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

We will arrange a customised tour for you that will meet your own requirements.
Enjoy the spectacular Lake District scenery and the many sites and locations as we unravel the Beatrix Potter story.

The itinerary can feature the actual sites associated with Beatrix Potter, or the film location sites, or a mixture of both - the choice is yours.
